Of course that
it is easier to use a heatsink with preinstalled thermal interface,
but in the end you will need to install a thermal interface if you
remove the CPU. I detailed the thermal interface installation procedure
because last week I saw a guy which installed a Global Win cooler
on a Duron 800Mhz overclocked to 1Ghz and reported a 55C degree
reading through the onboard sensor. I was quite amazed about this
and first I thought that the fan was faulty. But the problem was
another: our guy used a lot of thermal compound in order to increase
heat transfer. First he tried to use an entire syringe but because
it was not possible he did all the best :). The thermal compound
was all over the CPU surface, but after he removed a large amount
of compound the temperature reading dropped to 48C.
I hope that
you found this article an interesting reading and remember if you
have problems with your cooler or you want to ask me something do
not hesitate to use the forums.
