High-end market segment

Most overclockers buy coolers from this market segment. We have five coolers in this market category, but only two are reasonably priced. The other ones can be described as exceptional coolers, very powerful but also quite expensive. We tested these coolers with a very hot 1.4 Ghz Tbird running at 1662Mhz (1.85V).

Pentalpha APSK0160

This is nothing but a larger version of the APSK0166. It is approved for AMD and Intel CPUs and it has the same packaging, the same thermal interface, the same simple clip, the same fan.

The only difference is the heatsink which is 33% larger. Being approved for Athlon 1.5Ghz this cooler represents a nice choice for a user who wants to overclock at low costs.

We went much above the specs with this cooler, but it didn't disappoint me. The cooler went pretty hot at 51C, but we have to consider that the interface material could have been better and that we are outside the recommendation limits.

I do not recommend you to go as high as I did with this cooler, but it may be used to overclock even medium to high end CPUs.

This cooler it's a low cost solution which should be considered.

Test system: high-end market segment test bed
Test results:

  • max temp: 51C
  • Common fan rotation speed: 5460 rpm
  • Noise level: low
  • Overclocking: RECOMMENDED
