Kanie
is not a new company for PC Hardware readers. Last time we
had on the test table a Kanie
294-M cooler which performed very well. Today we have
in this roundup the company's top performer, Kanie Hedgehog
Type W. This is the first cooler I have ever seen based on
this philosophy.
In the
package you can find the heatsink, the necessary mounting
parts and two fans. We tested the lightest version with Melco
fans, but there is a version available with Delta fans. There
is a mounting installation guide inside, but no thermal compound.
As you
can see from the left picture, the heatsink is quite special:
very large, cooper made, with a very good finishing. We shoot
it in the protective bag, all Kanie cooper made products are
protected by oxidation with plastic bags. We really appreciated
the manufacturing quality, but unfortunately the heatsink
is very heavy, over 700g!
The two
fans shipped by Kanie are made by Melco and provide good cooling
capabilities without stressing your ears. We measured a noise
of only 49db(A), a good value for an overclocking product
with two fans.
The clip
has three mounting holes on each side and it's very well designed.
The installation is very easy and a screwdriver is required
only to mount the fans. Take care that not all the motherboards
can work with Hedgehog Type W due to its dimensions.
The cooler
performance is very high, with the 5400rpm fans the temperature
didn't go beyond 38C, making this cooler the best performer
in this roundup.
The cooler
is a very good performer, the noise is reasonable with the
Melco fans, but the weight is high and you have to pay a lot
for it. We recommend this cooler for Athlon XP overclocking.
