Quake
/ Linux
Take
a look below to the old Quake III scores:

I
have been benchmarking using Quake III for more than two years and
every time I see a new Quake score I am surprised about the improvement
of the video cards and processing performance. Most likely this
will be one of the last reviews that will use Quake III benchmarks;
I think that we should let the old Quake die. Soon I will switch
to several rendering tests which require a lot of CPU and video
performance. If you have any suggestions, do not hesitate to share
them with me in the forum.

Once
again Shuttle AK35GT2R scored better than Abit KX7-333. I ran the
test for ten times and the difference between the lower and the
higher score was more than 50 seconds.
Linux
kernel compilation test will also be replaced in future reviews.
The reason why I will do this is because the compilation provides
very different results every time we run it so the test can be called
unstable. Unfortunately every time I find a benchmark program for
Linux I am disappointed by several facts. First, most of them provide
inconsistent results. Second, they might not provide representative
results for CPU performance, they are dependent on many factors
that are out of my control. These benchmarks are good to compare
the entire system's performance, but don't tell much about two processors
or motherboards. I think I will solve these problems in the following
weeks. I'm currently working with several Linux benchmarks which
provide better results and I will let you know. |
